Useful tips during your travel

Please try to eat anything you are served. It taken as being very rude in Nepali culture to not even attempt to try food!

Take off your shoes/sandal before entering shops/home/kitchen and temples.

Nepali people often share bottles/jugs of water amongst groups of people, however it is seen as being unclean to allow your lips to touch the vestibule so instead they pour it into their mouths! (Called ‘Juta’) Watch the locals and you’ll soon have the hang of it!

Wearing revealing clothing is viewed negatively in Nepali culture.  Long pants or skirts and shirts that cover your shoulders and knees are ideal (suitable pants can be bought in Thamel for 3 or 4 euro), particularly for the female volunteers. String tops in particular are viewed negatively…especially while teaching.
